Green Street Program

Are you interested in saving MONEY and the ENVIRONMENT? Are you a member of an active community group? Then council's Green Street Program is for you. Through the Green Street program you will learn about:
- Saving money through energy and water conservation
- How your recycling efforts really do make a difference
- Cleaning your home with products that won't make you sick
- Composting and worm farming
- Environmentally friendly transport
- Encouraging native animals in your backyard and growing native plants
The Green Street Program is a sustainability education initiative for residents in the Shire. It is not just for streets, but for any active and motivated community group who have an interest in improving their quality of life. A community can be a local street, a P & C group or any other group of people who share a common interest.
The program revolves around a series of workshops on lifestyle and environmental topics. Each Green Street program is specially tailored to the needs and interests of the participating community. Participants have input into the content and format of each workshop.
Council is looking for interested communities to participate in the program. To be a successful Green Street, your community needs to be motivated and willing to attend a series of 5 or 6 workshops held monthly. Ideally the community group should have a core group of 3 or 4 members who are willing to work with Council staff to promote the program to the rest of the group.

If you would like to find out more about the program, or think you may wish to nominate a community who would be interested in participating, please contact the Environmental Science and Policy Unit on 9710 0163.
