Triple P for Parents seminars
This series of seminars is presented by council in conjunction with Families NSW, for families with children aged 3-8 years.
The next seminars (Positive Parenting Program) will be run in 2010 and will be on council's events calendar when dates are confirmed.
The first seminar, The Power of Positive Parenting, introduces participants to the five core principals of positive parenting. It is a chance for parents to hear about positive parenting, to meet other parents and to ask questions.
The second seminar, Raising Confident,Competent Children, introduces parents to the six key building blocks children need to do well in life. These skills include showing respect, being cooperative, being cosiderate of others, becoming independent, having healthy self-esteem, and becoming a good problem solver.
The final seminar, Raising Resilient Children, deals with how parents can help their children deal more effectively with emotions or feelings. The building blocks covered in the seminar include helping children recognise and accept feelings, express their feelings appropriately,build positive feelings, deal with negative feelings, develop coping skills, and deal with upsetting or stressful life events.
