Cronulla Central Project

Cronulla Central is now open to the public.

The $18 million project commenced in July 2007 and includes:

  • comprehensive new community facilities including a community hall, Cronulla Neighbour Aid Offices and meeting rooms office and retail space
  • a new library for Cronulla
  • a net gain of 128 additional parking spaces in the Cronulla Central building, created through new levels of carparking constructed on the new and existing multi-deck car park in Croydon Street
  • public toilets and a parents room
  • Cronulla Beach CBD Management Offices

Work is nearly complete on the internal fit out of the facilities including air conditioning, fire safety systems and electrical, plumbing and painting work.

A specialist local real estate agency has been appointed to secure tenants interested in leasing the retail spaces, commercial offices and the kiosk/café within the development.

The name Cronulla Central has been selected to reflect the central location of the new facilities and the fact that it will become a hub for retail, commercial and community activity in Cronulla.

Cronulla Beach CBD (formerly Cronulla Plaza) was established in 1988 as a Bicentennial project that council undertook to create a shopping, dining and entertainment precinct in the centre of Cronulla. Cronulla Street was closed to traffic and transformed into a pedestrian mall with a multi storey car park constructed in Croydon Street.

Characterised by a mix of alfresco dining, bars, fresh food, restaurants, fashion, supermarkets, home wares, gifts, cinemas, hair and beauty and professional services, Cronulla Beach CBD encompasses more than 270 businesses within the central business district and will be well served by the new Cronulla Central facility.

The project has been completed in stages to minimise disruptions to residents and businesses in the area.

Stage one involved constructing a new level of car parking on the existing multi-storey car park in Croydon Street, which was completed and opened in January 2008, creating 106 new parking spaces.

Stage two, which is now in its final stages, involves the construction of new community facilities which include commercial and retail space, a new Cronulla Community Hall, Cronulla Neighbour Aid Offices, meeting rooms, a new Cronulla Library, new public toilet, a parents room and the Cronulla Beach CBD Management office.

A further three levels of car parking in addition to the level already constructed in Stage one were also being created to provide new parking spaces.
